Today was the first paddle of the year, and I chose to spend it in the Red Cedar river. The Red Cedar flows through the MSU campus and East Lansing before it joins the Grand River. I started at noon. The temperature was right around 70 degrees and it was cloudless. The wend was gusty through the whole paddle, often not sure if it wanted to blow in my face or at my back. I took carrots, apples, and peanut butter for a snack, and enjoyed them at Ferguson Park on the corner of Jolly and Okemos Rd.. The paddle back took less than an hour, but I got to see a group of deer feeding by the water. The trip took about two hours and 45 minutes with a few portages over downed logs and a good rest at the park.
